Peugeot Course

Peugeot Course Record du Monde, Not sure on the year of this bike but most certainly 1980's. It came equipped with Simplex shifting components, Ridida 27x 1-1/4" quick release wheels, Weinnman Brakes, Peugeot branded crankset. Appears to be completely original with exception of the added water bottle holder. The frame is carbolite 103 internally lugged and welded for smooth joints. The brake levers are much nicer than the common dia compe 'safety levers' with their more aero styling, although they function only marginally better.

  1. Any chance you know the thread of the crank? I'm trying to pull a crank off my 80s peugeot that looks exactly like this crank, and I'm having a hell of a time. I tried a 22mm Park Tool, but it seems like a FRACTION too big, and seems to be stripping the threads inside the crank, so I stopped. Ugh!

    1. It should work, the threads might have been slightly dirty or have some aluminum corrosion on them making the puller feel larger. the only other possibility for the crank not to accept the puller was if it were a stronglight crank which accepts a larger diameter puller. However that doesn't seem to be the case. check out http://sheldonbrown.com/velos.html

"Older TA and Stronglight cranks each had their own unique thread for for the crank extractor, and you will need to get the correct puller for the crank you are working on. TA used a 23 mm extractor, Stronglight used 23.35 mm until 1982, when it converted to the standard 22mm diameter. You must use the correct crank extractor. Be especially careful not to use a TA extractor on a Stronglight crank. It will thread in, but it will be just loose enough to strip the threads in the crank."

You may have to resort to banging the crank out. make sure to lube the spindle and contact areas to facilitate it. You may try a gear puller (sold at auto parts stores) to remove a crank . I have tried this and can be very tricky depending on the shape of the crank.
